Metallic Ink is an ink that uses metallic flakes or simulates metallic flakes for a metallic appearance in the ink finish. The most common metallic ink is GOLD. Metallic inks should not be run back through a laser printer or High Speed Copier unless it is a nonmetallic ink (meaning that no metallic flakes were used in the ink manufacturing process). Metallic inks can cause damage to laser printers and copiers if the metallic flakes rub off and get on the rollers or processing drum of a laser printer or copier. Whenever we are printing metallic inks for a customer we make sure they are aware of this risk and recommend a laser ink or nonmetallic ink if they wish to run the printed piece back through a laser printer or copier.
