JPEG or .jpg as a lot of people know it is an abbreviation for Joint Photographic Experts Group, an ISO group that has established a standard for the compression of rasterized images. JPEG is a LOSSY format of compression which means to make the file size smaller it deletes certain image information. Once this information is lost and cannot be retrieved anymore. The more compression used the more the image deterorates in quality. JPEG is usually used for archiving photographs or for transfer over the internet. It is not a highly recommend compression to be used for quality printing unless you fully understand the resolution and compression settings used in this format. We recommend .TIF or TIFF format with LZW compression for images since this is a lossless (no information is lost during the compression process) compression format.
