EPS or Encapsulated Postscript is a file format that contains both the image and postscript commands. Most commonly used in VECTOR based programs, EPS is the most common format for vector based graphics. Since the postscript commands are contained in the file image data is never overrun by another program. Common terms are VECTOR BASED EPS which is an EPS that contains ONLY Vector image data (mainly used for spot color printing, vinyl cutting, laser cutting), RASTERIZE BASED EPS which is an EPS that contains ONLY Rasterized image data (usually used for 4 color process or duo tone printing and large format digital printing), and COMPLEX EPS which contains BOTH Vector Based Image Data and Rasterized Image Data (Usually for 4 color printing, duo tone printing or 1 color printing) Usually for complex designs using rasterized and vector effects. Usually Not recommend for spot color.
