Over the last
ten years, advances in personal computers, desktop publishing
software and desktop printers have forced many small printing
companies to change their way of doing business. Debra Williams,
president of Williams Printing and Office Supply of Fayetteville,
is one who met the challenge of new technology head-on and
has used it to generate new business.
The firm Ms. Williams
now heads was founded by her mother-in-law, the late Shirley
Williams, in 1947. The founder held a journalism degree from
Penn state and provided letter writing and duplicating services
to local business and professional people. In 1977, the firm
began selling office supplies. Debra Williams joined the firm
in 1980 when there were only five employees. her husband Terry,
a 1971 graduate of Methodist College, also works in the business,
and her son Jerome manages the Action Graphics division. Her
cousin, Gail Tyndall, is the office manager and her nephew,
Keith Owen, is a computer specialist/graphic designer. Mrs.
Williams says all her employees are important and are considered
part of the family.
Today, Williams
Printing and Office Supply employs twenty-four persons at
it main store on Bragg Boulevard and a satellite store on
Yadkin Road. Three years ago, Debra Williams formed the Action
Graphics division, which specializes in custom-made signs
and banners, laser engraving, self-service copying, process
color printing, awards, and trophies.
In recent years,
Mrs. Williams has invested heavily in state-of-the-art computes
and printing equipment to ensure that her company remains
competitive. Aside from the latest technology, she wants Williams
Printing and Office Supply to be known for top quality products,
hometown personal service, and a multitude of walk-in services.
Debra Williams has put her business on a fast-track for growth
and her family and employees are excited about the future.
For her creativity
and dedication to her family, her community, her employees,
and her customers, Methodist College presented the Outstanding
